Coupar Two Ltd is proposing to develop a solar farm on land around the Coupar Angus substation, approximately 600 m south of Coupar Angus. The project is known as ‘Markethill Solar Farm’ and would be a ground mounted solar PV farm, with associated ancillary infrastructure.

This website provides information about the project and the application, and has been developed as part of the pre-planning process to allow the public an opportunity to learn about the development proposals, and submit comments and feedback prior to the submission of the planning application.

This website will be updated by the project team with key information about the development, as the project progresses through the pre-application stage.

The development would have an export capacity of up to 49.9 megawatts. As the proposed export capacity of the development is under 50 MW, a planning application will be submitted to Perth and Kinross Council as the determining body for permission to build and operate the solar farm.

The project team are seeking your views on this proposal ahead of the submission of the planning application to Perth and Kinross Council.

Coupar Two Ltd ?

Solar PV energy works by using the photovoltaic cells to absorb light energy, from sunlight, and converting it to electricity. When the sunlight hits the solar panels, the photon particles in the light pass through the thin layer on top of the solar panel – this knocks electrons in the layer free from the atoms. This generates a direct current (DC) electric current which is conducted through wiring within the solar panels. This passes through inverters and converted to alternating current (AC) for export to the grid from the onsite substation.

Markethill Solar Farm would contribute to national targets by adding up to 49.9 MW of capacity over its 35 year operation. Based on the Scottish Government’s calculator, this could produce the equivalent of annual power for approximately 11,079 homes and save up to 19,940 tonnes of CO2 from fossil fuel use each year of operation*.
