The Proposed Development
What is in a BESS development?
The project would consist of around 20 containerised battery storage units, and would utilise a very compact design of energy storage technology to minimise the site footprint. The energy storage units would be accompanied by infrastructure including transformers, a connection building and other electrical equipment. The energy storage units would be based on steel containers finished in a green or grey colour and the site would be surrounded by fencing and a significant area of landscaping, which will use native species and will be designed to deliver a net gain in biodiversity. The site would not be lit when operating and would generate negligible levels of traffic once constructed.
The proposed component parts of the project are listed below.
- An area of Hardstanding

- Control/switch room building
- Containerised site office
- Containerised site store
- Perimeter security fencing
- CCTV columns
